When it's an emergency
When a termite inspection becomes urgent
Termite damage is progressive and often hidden, so a few signs are genuinely worth acting on straight away rather than waiting for a routine check-up.
A swarm of winged insects indoors
Termites often swarm after rain as young reproductive termites (alates) leave an established colony to start new ones — a strong sign of nearby activity.
Mud tubes on walls or foundations
These pencil-width tubes protect termites as they travel between the soil and timber, and are one of the clearest visible signs of activity.
Timber that sounds hollow or crumbles
Damaged skirting boards, door frames or structural timber can indicate activity that's been progressing for some time.
Damage discovered during renovation
Termite damage found once walls or floors are opened up needs prompt assessment before work continues.
An urgent report before sale or settlement
A pending sale or settlement date often means a documented inspection is needed on a tight timeline.
A neighbouring property has confirmed termites
Termites can move between adjoining properties, so confirmed activity next door is a reasonable trigger for your own inspection.
Termites or flying ants?:
Termites or flying ants?: During a swarm, it’s easy to confuse the two. Termites generally have straight, bead-like antennae, a thick, uniform waist, and two pairs of wings of roughly equal length. Flying ants have bent antennae, a distinctly pinched waist, and front wings that are noticeably longer than their back wings. If you’re not sure, a few collected insects in a sealed container can help us confirm on arrival.
Insurance note: Termite damage is typically excluded from standard home and contents insurance policies in Australia, which is why a professional inspection report often matters for a property sale, dispute, or simply understanding what you’re dealing with.
Before we arrive
What to do while you wait
1
Don't disturb mud tubes or affected timber
Leaving evidence intact helps with an accurate assessment on arrival.
2
Collect a few swarming insects if you can, safely
A small sample in a sealed jar or container can help confirm identification before the technician even arrives.
3
Avoid DIY termiticide sprays
These can scatter or disperse activity, making both treatment and inspection less accurate afterwards.
4
Hold off on repairs to affected timber
Wait until the area has been properly inspected before patching or replacing anything.
5
Note where and when you noticed activity
Helps the technician understand the likely extent and timeline of the issue.
6
Gather any relevant paperwork if it's for a sale
Previous pest reports or building inspections can help speed up the process if there’s a settlement deadline.

I was experiencing a rodent infestation in my property, with the constant sound of scratching each night, which created an uncomfortable and unsafe living environment. After conducting some online research, I reached out to Kulwinder from Trident Pest Control. He arrived within an hour, a stark contrast to other companies I had contacted, which were not only more expensive but also had long wait times for appointments. During the inspection, I also discovered what appeared to be insect residue, droppings, and a nest, which I brought to Kulwinder’s attention. He quickly diagnosed the issue and its underlying cause. With the appropriate equipment readily available, I enlisted his services for both rodent and insecticide control. Kulwinder was thorough in explaining the entire process, providing valuable advice on prevention, and addressing all of my questions with patience and professionalism. The entire procedure was completed in approximately one hour. I am thoroughly impressed with the service provided by Trident Pest Control and highly recommend their services for their prompt response, detailed explanations, and reasonable pricing!Posted on Google![]()
